1) Find something you enjoy
Exercising can become a dreaded thought so it’s important to find something you enjoy. If you go to the gym one day and feel like it wasn’t for you, don’t give up! Try a workout class or switch up your routine until you find something you look forward to doing. You are far more likely to succeed if you are doing something you actually enjoy.
2) Rope in a friend
Do you have a friend or partner looking to get fit? Get them along to the gym with you, exercising is always easier when you have a little support and encouragement. Plus, you are far less likely to skip that 6:30am workout class if you know there’s someone waiting at the gym for you.
3) Don’t put too much pressure on yourself, take one little step at a time
Sometimes when we are looking to get fit, we have one ‘bad day’ and feel like we’ve totally messed things up. It’s important not to let these days get to you. 4) Set realistic goals, you can always set another goal once the first is reached
It may take some time to get the results you want, which can often leave people disheartened if they are not seeing immediate results. It’s important to break your ultimate goal down into stages, setting lots of smaller goals to help keep you motivated along the way.
5) Take a rest if you need it
People underestimate the benefit of rest. Rest days are an essential part of training, they help your mind and muscles recover so you’re fully prepared to kill it in your next workout. So it’s ok to have a lazy day every now and again and not feel guilty about it!
