What Makes Tru Wealth a Happy Workplace?

A Truly Happy Workplace

The notion that working within the financial services industry is dull, doesn’t ring true in the  Tru Wealth office. To many it may be an industry considered complex unless you have appropriate training, or you may find it tricky to understand certain aspects of our services. Let’s face it, people don’t exactly get excited about mortgages and retirement benefits. Discussing life insurance and critical illness insurance can be morbid topics for conversation, however it is essential to plan for your family future needs.

While financial matters and client satisfaction lie at the heart of Tru Wealth’s mission, there is also a strong desire to create a happy workplace. We believe a happy work environment attracts good people and helps the people who work for us to do the best for the company. We believe that if we can make our team happy at work, then they will be all the more productive and inspired to stay with us for the long run.

Creating a Positive Corporate Culture

Tru Wealth are a compact team of five people, bringing with them a range of  different skills and responsibilities and we work diligently to create a positive corporate culture. We believe that putting energy into our team yields positive business results. We have worked hard to hire the best possible talent, but also ensure we are hiring happy individuals.

Our team of happy individuals consists of Advisers Meryn and Jonny, Administrators Corinne and Liz, and Operations Manager Vito. As a small but effective team, it is more important than ever that everyone feels like what they’re doing at work matters. In order for team members to feel good about the work they are producing, they need to fully understand the company’s mission and purpose and their role within it.

An element of effective teamwork is having clearly defined roles within the team. A football team has players on the pitch with specific duties and positioning. Players know their roles and don’t just all flock to the ball. The same is true in the office environment. Establishing great teamwork means taking the time to define each employee’s role and explain how the team functions together.

Hiring Happy People

Hiring happy personalities means that on a Friday afternoon no one grunts at us taking out the table tennis for a brief break from the grind, or escaping the office together to enjoy a team lunch, just because we feel like it. By getting out of the work routine occasionally and treating people to something surprising and good fun means that the team returns to their desks refreshed and more able to focus on the bigger picture.

By encouraging each individual’s personal achievements and personal career goals, people feel more valued, and focus less on the day to day intricacies and politics within office life.

Team Fundraising

At Tru Wealth we believe in giving back and that fundraising is one of the most honourable things you can do. As a team, we are embarking on a training schedule for our first team 10K, to raise funds for local charity Beatson Cancer Cancer Charity, and this will be the first of our many group fundraising activities. Completing this activity as a team means everyone is making a commitment to the Tru Wealth brand, and this brings a sense of achievement and pride to the team while doing something extremely worthwhile.

We chose Beatson Cancer Charity as we all too familiar with the great work they do for us- we all know someone who has relied upon the amazing support and help they offer. So this is our way of helping them to continue to provide vital services for patients and their families.

Promoting a Healthy Lifestyle at Work

Employees are our best asset, we believe putting effort into employee wellness can encourage better teamwork, increase productivity and reduce sick leave.

Many of us spend our days sitting at our desks looking at computer screens, and encouraging fitness in the workplace can actually be extremely beneficial for us as employers. The endorphins released during exercise mean that employees have more self-confidence and energy, they have more positive attitudes when at work, and they are less stressed.

Fit employees are also much less likely to get sick – if there is a bug going around the office, those who don’t look after themselves and exercise regularly are far more likely to fall ill. Encouraging exercise among our staff is likely to reduce absenteeism too.

Enjoying a Night Out

While staying healthy and promoting well-being, one aspect of team work we don’t shy away from is the occasional work night out! It is great to reward the team and bring them together outside of the office where often the true colours of our personalities have an opportunity to shine.

So, alongside setting our business goals for this week, we will be creating a safe, empowering and a positive work environment, focusing on appreciating our employees, being flexible, encouraging good team work, and spreading the belief that happiness is contagious.
